McDonalds, 8303 Broadway, Pearland, 77581

I am only evaluating the Family bathroom in the playground area. The overall rating is 2.7.

I award a 2.0 on the cleanliness scale. The toilet seat is frightful. The brown stain on the edge? Maybe it is time that it is replaced. I cant imagine that a $25 dollar seat will cut that far into profits.

The floor was not in that great of a shape either. There was a nice film covering the floor. I will have to give the establishment some credit since there was no proliferating or lingering odor.

The staff at least was consistent and left the same film on the sink.

The strainer in the sink had a really nice antiquing effect going on and why bother with the blue covering cap on the cold water. It is not like a child is going to realize that the blue signifies cold water and the red one is gone. Remember that this is the family friendly restroom.

I really can't comment on appearance during heavy use since this was early in the morning. But if this was the appearance during "light" use. What is it going to look like during heavy?

I am deviating from the Handicap accessibility to Child accessibility. I award Child accessibility a 3. This bathroom was not intended for the little tykes.

The soap dispenser was completely unreachable for my son. The sink itself is set to high for him as well. Admittedly there is limited space. But geez this is not set up to encourage good hygiene. Even in a wheel chair I would not appreciate the placement of the soap dispenser.

The hand blow dryer was placed so that my son had to hold his arms above his head to dry his hands.

There is a changing table and it was not all tore up or dirty. So some credit is given for that.

The toilet paper dispenser was set up for an adult. I award it a 3 as well. At least one side was full. Not that I would want either my son or daughters to have to set on the seat itself.

Also there was not any paper seat covering not even a dispenser.

I will flip them a bone and award a 5 for the soap dispenser being full.

The air dryer gets a 3 for poor placement. It is opposite side of the wall from the sink. Let's drip water all over the floor so that the film is nice and slick to slip on.

The Graffiti or lack of gets a 5. Surprisingly there is none.

    sbarro, Nassau, Bahamas

Ok, I have no pictures but I will go from memory. This is one place that is easy to sneak into to use the facilites with out have to buy food. West Bay Street is extremely packed but I never saw any public bathrooms. So sneaking into an establishment is a must.

Again, my rating is from 1 to 5 with 1 being the lowest score and the 5 the highest score. The scoring is broken down into several areas:

    • Cleanliness
    • Age of fixtures
    • Appearance during heavy use
    • Handicap accessibility
    • Soap Dispensers Stocked
    • Paper towel dispenser stocked or working air dryer
    • Graffiti or lack of
I award cleanliness a 3 and I am being generous. You definitely want some Handiwipes once you leave to make sure that germs are gone. It was evident that the porcelain target is missed.

Age of fixtures I give a 3 as well. They were not in the greatest of shapes and were a bit rusty.

Appearance during heavy use gets a 3. It was seeing some heavy use that day.

Handicap accessibility get a 0. It was upstairs and they were steep incline. If you were able to get a chair up them it would have been like the luge coming dow,

Soap dispensers stocked gets a 4 and paper towels also gets a 4.

Graffitti or lack of gets  5. I didn't notice any. I hasn't in there long.

Garden of the Groves, Lucaya, Freeport Bahama

Never seen flowers in a men's bathroom.
Yes, I know that I live in Houston but as you travel everyone wants clean accommodations. Now Garden of the Groves is a botanical garden and the privy is located outside. I was a little concerned as to the potential cleanliness. To my pleasant surprise both privies were immaculate. In fact in one the staff took the time to put flowers on the counter.

Now my rating is from 1 to 5 with 1 being the lowest score and the 5 the highest score. The scoring is broken down into several areas:

    • Cleanliness
    • Age of fixtures
    • Appearance during heavy use
    • Handicap accessibility
    • Soap Dispensers Stocked
    • Paper towel dispenser stocked or working air dryer
    • Graffiti or lack of

Rather large target. How can you miss?

I award the bathroom over all a 4.4 based upon the following:

Cleanliness is awarded a 4.5. The floors were exceptionally clean and the grout lines were not stained or caked with dirt. Remember that the restrooms here are outside. I deducted 0.5 points because of the close proximities of the stall walls. Why some men can't hit that large porcelain target, I just don't know? Not that I saw any missed fired shots but there is the potential. Notice the trash can conveniently located under neath the towel dispenser and the bag liner is tied with a knot so it will not slip down. Again attention to detail just like the flowers on the counter, a nice touch. The restroom did not have a proliferating odor whether it be urine or bleach.

Age of fixtures is awarded a 5. The urinal flush wasn't rusty or loose or shaky. I didn't have to bang on the top to stop the water from flowing. The sink facet did not leak and easily turned on and off.

Appearance during heavy use is awarded a 5. I had the chance to see heavy use. This particular privy is located next to the playground. It got some heavy use as my children played near by. I easily saw a dozen men use the facility over a 45 minute period and there was no attendant keeping up with the facilites. Prior to leaving and one last trip for me and it was still well kept inside.

Handicap accessibility I will award a 3. The sitting stall was not as accommodating for a wheelchair. I happen to have some idea about this after spending six months in a wheelchairs a few years back. They need more maneuverability to get a better rating.

Soap dispensers stocked gets awarded a 5. The dispenser was full and not dripping all over the counter.

Paper towel dispenser stocked or working air dryer gets awarded a 4. Definitely fully stocked but a working air dryer would be better.

Graffiti or lack of is awarded a 5. There was no graffiti or faded limericks.

Final thoughts: I would have been comfortable enough to take my daughter in there had the need arose.
